Safaricom’s M-Pesa is one innovation that has served millions over the years. Recently Safaricom changed its Mpesa charges, and you will have to pay more to transfer or receive payments on your mobile handset.

The move to expand the Mpesa Charges by Safaricom came shortly following the 2018/19 National budget was tabled in parliament. The Treasury CS Henry Rotich revealed that customers would now be priced at 12 per cent up from the previous 10 percent of every money transfer cost in the budget.
New M-Pesa Charges 2022 Summary
The Safaricom new M-Pesa charges will force the Mpesa user to pay the following fees in every transaction:
- All cash deposits to your account or receiving money on Mpesa are free.
- Sending amounts between Ksh 1- 100 to other MPesa users, you won’t be charged anything, which makes it free.
- If you are sending cash amounts of between Ksh50 to 1,00, M-Pesa won’t be charged.
- Withdrawing any cash between Ksh. 501 to Ksh 1,000 will cost you Ksh 28 shillings.
- Sending any cash amount between KSh 1501 to Ksh 2500 will cost you only 22 Kenyan shillings.
- Sending an amount of more than Ksh2501 and less than 3500 will be charged at Ks 51 bob.
- If you want to withdraw cash of Ksh 5,000, you will have to leave 67 shillings to Safaricom.
- And to send Ksh 5000, you will be charged Ksh 55 bob.
- Sending Kshs 10 000 shillings will cost Ksh 87 bob.
- While sending Kshs 20,000 will cost you 102 shillings.
- And when you go to withdraw a sum of Ksh 20,000, you will part with Ksh 180.

Safaricom PLC has a limit on the amount you can withdraw from Mpesa, as seen in the table above. For example, you cannot withdraw less than KSH50 at an M-PESA agent outlet.
